Cheap And Lovely: Decorate Your Home For Less

You always wanted a lovely home, with creative decorations, but that is simply too expensive for your budget? We got some tips and tricks that will help you make your home look amazing while being on a tight budget!

These small things will freshen up your place, and they are also inexpensive!

Hang plates

If you use plates in unexpected colors, they can create a fresh and interesting wall arrangement. You can use different shades of the color you chose, mix up sizes and textures, and place the most dramatic plate at the center. Before you place them on the wall, experiment with the layout first, and when you decide, just attach wire plate hangers and hang plates on picture nails.

A gallery of your own

Rummage through your albums to find your best shots. Pick a topic – vacations, weddings, birthdays… and put those pictures in identical frames. Hang them on a wall in a long line or a tight grid – actually, any geometric arrangement is a safe bet.

Candle cluster

One solitary candle will not do much for the look of your place, but if you place an entire cluster of same colored candles in different sizes in glass containers, onto a spacious surface, you cannot make a mistake. The larger the surface, the larger the candles should be, and you can place them on a coffee table, or a low shelf, and they will look amazing.

Color boost

If you have a room that simply looks dull, you can perk it up with hits of vibrant color, like turquoise, violet or green. You can add that necessary pop of color with throw pillows, colored candles, a few pictures… even a simple bouquet of flowers in one of the vibrant shades can help.

Repurpose

You don’t have to throw away furniture just because it has a small flaw, you can use it to add that “je ne sais quoi” to a room that is otherwise ordinary. For instance, you have an old rickety chair. You can use it as a bedside table, and place an alarm clock on it, or a reading lamp. Also, if you add some detail to that chair, like a ribbon, or a vase with flowers, it will definitely brighten the room.

Use wicker to lighten up the room

When you look at wicker, you will think that it seems like it belongs outdoors, and that is exactly why it changes the mood in any room. Put wicker chairs in a sunny corner, or just mix them in with your upholstered furniture, and the difference will astonish you.

Find hidden canvases

See past boring pieces of furniture and transform them into modern artwork. How? Look at those boring closet doors. Turn them around, add an interesting fabric from top to bottom, and you will have a stylish, soft alternative. Also, you can hang modern pictures in frames onto each closet door.

Don’t be afraid to dig

Great furniture is out there, and it is affordable too. If you are just willing to put some time and effort into it, you can find amazing pieces at a thrift store, a hotel liquidator, a garage sale, or an estate sale.

Perk up the old stuff

Don’t let worn furniture destroy the entire room. Spiff them up a bit. Repair broken hinges, add new hardware, refresh the paint, and your old furniture will look brand new, and complement the room much better.

Have a theme

Simple and effective. If you design a room around a topic it can be a lot of fun, just make sure to exercise some restraint. If you are going for a nautical theme, don’t cluster details, be moderate. It is relatively simple to adapt a room to a theme, and it is not costly – just perfect!

Skip the big names

When you are looking for new furniture, details or decorations, do not, under any circumstances, go to the big retailers. Instead, go to Chinatown or Little Italy, and you will find much more, for much less!

In the end, everything you do will just make you love your home even more because when you build something and when it comes ready-made, it really isn’t the same.
